This is a collection of Great Gray Owl photos from the 2004/2005 Northern Owl invasion. Very large numbers of Great Gray Owls and Northern Hawk Owls had appeared (mainly) in Northern Minnosota. These invasions are normal as the vole population (their main food source) declines about every 3 to 5 years. The 2004/2005 invasion has been one of the most extream because of a cold wet summer in Canada. This further reduced the rodent population and drove 1000's of owls south in search for food.
