This is a collection of Northern Hawk Owl photos from the 2004/2005 Northern Owl invasion. Very large numbers of Great Gray Owls and Northern Hawk Owls have appeared (mainly) in Northern Minnosota. These invasions are normal as the vole population (their main food source) declines about every 3 to 5 years. The 2004/2005 invasion has been one of the most extream because of a cold wet summer in Canada. This further reduced the rodent population and drove probably 1000's of owls south in search for food.
