Flammulated Owls are only vocal for about one month a year in the spring. Although they are occasionally heard later in the summer, they are mostly totally mute outside of this period of the year. In the winter months they completely migrate out of the United States into Central America. They are one of the smallest owls and the most migratory owl in North America.
