This Mottled Owl was in Costa Rica between Jaco and Tarcoles. Even at a distance the Mottled Owl's vertical chest streaking and brown eyes distinguish it from the other owls. The southern race of Mottled Owl is much darker than the races in northern Mexico and shows much less white eyebrow An owl's call is always though, key to it's identification.
