We found several Pacific Screech-Owls right along the coast in the Tarcoles area of Costa Rica. These individuals were not as shy as the previous Pacific Screech-Owls I had seen in Southern Mexico. Typical of Pacific Screech-Owl this individual shows a dark border around the facial disk and dark, distinct, but fine vermiculated markings below. This is a fairly large screech-owl at about 9 1/2 inches.
