We found this beautiful
Owl in Silverado Canyon in Southern California during the 2008 Christmas
Bird count. (I finally managed to get a nice photo of a Saw-whet Owl
in our local canyons!) It always seems that the instant you see one
of these owls here they immediatly fly away. Late at night this particular
individual flew right up close, sat on a branch 15 feet above and
just watched us. He remained while I ran to the car, got a camera,
and then while we talked about what a nice owl it was! As we left
he was still sitting on the same branch.
