The photo of this young Owl was taken in Carrizo Plain, California on Father's Day (June), 2005. This was one of three young owls that I found together in this spot. This is a young (recently fledged) owl and would still be cared for by its parents who would have been reasonably close by. These were good lessons to be learned since I had never seen young Short-eared Owls, in the several years I have come here, nor at this time of year. I saw multiple groups of young owls here so it was a very good reminder to keep my eyes open.
