We found these two precious young Spotted Owlets in Mill Valley, California in June of 2009. These two young Spotted Owls were just getting their flying down pat. We had watched their mother feed them and after they had eaten they flew over to see who we were. You could see them bob up and down and study the next perch before they would take the next short flight from branch to branch or tree to tree to finally make it over to us. This was really a special event to have them fly right over to us -just a few feet away- to see who was in their home territory. They were extreamly inquisitive and seemed to have very little apprehension about us. They were also really cute! I have to wonder if this bold behavior does not really further endanger this species. Special thanks to Steven Pennington who showed us where these were.
